How Long Does Weed Stay In Your Body

Cannabis or hemp plants are common weeds in east Asia. The raisin, flower, leaves and seeds of the plant can be used for both medicinal and recreational purposes. The most common reason for using weed or marijuana other than medical purposes is relaxation and increased focus or concentration, which improves enjoyment of activities and pain management.

Use of weed for recreational purposes is banned in many countries. The law of using weed or marijuana is so strict in those countries that if someone fails the drug test, he or she may face serious legal consequences. The positive drug test results include disqualification or termination of employment.

What is Weed?

Weed or pot or marijuana or simply cannabis is a natural substance that has psychoactive properties more abused than using for benefits.it takes the user in a state of euphoria.

There are two species of weeds. 1. Cannabis sativa and 2. Cannabis indica.

The leaf, flower, raisin of the plant, seeds and various parts of the plant can be consumed. And the forbidden drugs can be consumed in a variety of forms. Each variety absorbs differently in the bloodstream and has different effects. The duration of the drug also differs for different varieties.

When smoked, more than 2000 compounds are produced by pyrolysis (thermal decomposition of materials in an inert atmosphere). These compounds altogether are responsible for unique pharmacological as well as toxicological properties of cannabis.THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is considered the most psychoactive component contributing to the behavioral among them. Cannabidiol (CBD), cannabichromene do not have psychoactive properties. These compounds have anticonvulsant and analgesic activity.

How can the drugs be administered?

Most of the forms of the drugs are either smoked or taken orally by mixing with other substances. Passive smokers can also have traces of marijuana in their body. It can transmit through breast feeding as well.

How does weed (marijuana) synthesize in body:

Any drug that enters our body is synthesized in the liver. Liver makes the beneficial parts to be absorbed in the blood and take out the harmful substances from the body.THC stored in body tissues like fat and organs like the brain, heart. It is metabolized in the liver and converted to 11-hydroxy-THC and carboxy-THC. THC accumulation is faster in fat tissues than the addicted persons. It can stay in the body of the users from 3 to 30 days or more after smoking it.

But there are many other factors that ensure faster excretion of the marijuana.

How Long Does Weed Stay in Your Body

It is noticed that 15% of the weed consumed, remains in the body. 20% of it is excreted via urine and the rest of marijuana goes out through feces.

For the first time users or occasional users it can be detected within 3 days of consumption.

The drugs can be detected from 3 to 15 days after consuming it, for the users who consume more frequently but on an irregular basis.

For regular users it may remain in the body for more than 30 days.

How is weed detected in the body?

Collecting samples and testing THC level in the samples are the means used to detect weed in the body. Samples of blood, urine, saliva, even hair can be collected for THC testing.  But different samples show different levels of accuracy of the test and the timeframe within which it should be tested also differ for each sample.

Blood test:  Weed or marijuana can be detected in blood, if blood samples can be tested within 12 hours of consumption.

Saliva test: THC can be detected from saliva a little longer than blood, if the test is conducted within 24 hours of consumption. In some rare cases the THC is found in the saliva even after 72 hours of consumption.

Urine test: Marijuana can be detected from urine for up to 30 days of consumption. That is why the urine test is considered the most common drug test.

Hair test: Hair test, though has the maximum time frame, is not that reliable. Hair test can be positive even after 90 days of consumption. As it can be detected in passive smokers also and in the person who came in contact with the user of marijuana. The skin oil has the THC which are there in the hair. The result may be false for such reasons.

Factors that can have impacts on detection

Regular use of the drug increases the chance of detection of the drugs.

Positive test result depends on the type of samples as well as the time frame within which the sample has been collected.

The potency of the drug is different in different forms. Consuming a more potent form of the drug increases the chance of detection.

Those whose metabolism rate is higher have lesser chances of detecting the drugs in their body.

Metabolism helps in absorption of beneficial chemicals and excretion of harmful chemicals from the body.

The THC of the drug accumulates in fat tissues of the body. That is why leaner people has chances of dodging the test than fat persons. As females have more fat content than males, metabolism of THC is lower in them than the males.

Exercising or any kind of physical activities temporarily raises the THC concentration in the body. Exercise burns fat and in this process fat cells release the THC they have accumulated. And that increases the THC concentration in blood.

It is seen that hydration to some extent lessens the chance of detecting positive THC. That does not mean dehydration results in negative.

How to get the drug out of your system

There are many ways with which one can get rid of the drugs they consumed, from their body.

  •  Avoiding morning samples of urine and high doses of aspirin may reduce the accuracy of urine tests.
  • Increasing urination by increasing water intake can lessen the concentration of THC in the body.
  • By controlling body fat and metabolism and increasing activities can affect the result of detection.

The time frame of the test is more important to pass a drug test.
