Does Coffee Increase My Testosterone?

Does Coffee Increase My Testosterone_

Coffee, the most popular drink worldwide, has many benefits. If taken in controlled amounts it can do wonders to inner health as well as boost stamina and help you go that extra mile.

Other than an energy drink, it has endless health benefits. Coffee bean contains caffeine a natural stimulant, and its metabolites

The Benefits Of Coffee

The caffeine in coffee is a natural stimulant that keeps us awake, alert and energized. It is the source of magnesium, potassium, and different vitamin B’s provided there is no sugar in your mug of coffee. It increases the serotonin and dopamine levels in the brain and thus helps to fight depression. It reduces inflammation by blocking the signal of pain to the brain. Works as a positive catalyst to medical pain relievers. It reduces the chances of Alzheimer, Parkinson’s, type 2 diabetes.

What is Testosterone

Testosterone is the known as male sex hormone that is responsible for muscle growth, strong bones, boosts sex drive and libido. Not only that, a lower level of testosterone can hamper mental health and sometimes causes clinical depression or pre-clinical depression. Both men and women have this hormone and the production of testosterone is peak when they are in their late twenties to forty. After forty years of age, production of testosterone gradually declines.

In this article we will discuss the effect of coffee in increasing the level of testosterone in men.

The caffeine in coffee boosts testosterone level. It is noticed that men who consume coffee on a regular basis in regulated amounts have more testosterone levels than those who do not consume coffee. And the effect is just opposite in estradiol hormone, i.e., caffeine reduces it.

As long as the effect of coffee is considered, the amount of daily consumption is very crucial. Excess coffee has a negative impact on overall health as well as on testosterone level. Higher caffeine and its metabolites can lower the testosterone level in men. As per the dietary guidelines, three to five cups of coffee per day can be considered safe to get the optimum goodness of caffeine in it. Three to five cups of coffee a day ensures maximum 400 mg of caffeine intake, provided the coffee is not decaffeinated.

A cup of decaffeinated coffee may contain only 2 mg of caffeine compared to a cup of regular coffee that has more or less 95 mg of caffeine. Actually almost 97% of caffeine is removed from the coffee in the process of decaffeination. So the type of coffee should be considered while consuming it for testosterone enhancer.

Relation Between Caffeine and Testosterone level

The study shows conflicting results about caffeine consumption and increase in testosterone level. There is a positive correlation among some whereas others show no connection between consumption of coffee and testosterone. Actually caffeine acts as an aromatase inhibitor that boosts testosterone production. Several Studies have been conducted to find the impact of caffeine in the level of testosterone.

But it can be surely said that excess caffeine can have risk factors and cause low testosterone levels and reproductive dysfunction. In several studies it is found that drinking 2 to 4 cups maximum a day can boost testosterone level but coffee can not be the treatment for low testosterone levels.

Outcome of Several Studies

It has been seen that the drinks that boost testosterone, available in the market contain caffeine, a natural stimulant to increase the level of testosterone in men. So can we conclude that the most common beverage worldwide, coffee can also serve the same purpose as a cup of coffee has almost 95 mg of caffeine?

In 2008 a study was conducted to see the effect of caffeine on twenty four professional rugby players. How various doses of caffeine affect them during their resistance training sessions was observed and a positive impact was noticed.

But a study from 2012 failed to establish any connection between coffee and testosterone level.

Another study from 2018 showed no connection between coffee and testosterone but it showed controlled caffeine intake could reverse obesity which indirectly boosted testosterone levels.

Conclusion

Coffee has many benefits that can’t be ignored. But its quality of boosting testosterone can not be relied on as the studies to get a connection between two of them are not full proof. So it is not recommended for those suffering from low levels of testosterone. Low testosterone level leads to many physical, sexual as well as mental ailments and should not be ignored. Daily 400 mg of caffeine that we get from 2 to 4 cups of coffee per day can boost the testosterone level, if the deviation is slightly lower than the normal level. But for a very low level of testosterone doctor’s advice is needed.

Too much of anything is bad. Too much caffeine is also bad for overall health. Instead of boosting the testosterone level, it can decrease the testosterone levels, not only that it also has adverse effects on reproduction.
